One of the most depressing realties for me that’s fallen from my involvement in the gender heresy movement has involved the capture of the media by gender extremists.
I look back to the days when, as a pre-Twitter news political news junkie, I watched several news casts per evening to gather intelligence that helped me gain an understanding of the world around me. Every morning when I arrived at the office, I poured through several newspapers and marked news stories for clipping and filing. This is how old timers like myself got their political intelligence back in the day before the interwebs was a thing for your average bear. It rarely occurred to me that the journos writing or reporting the piece lied. Investigative reporting and factual presentation actually happened. Journalists devoted to uncovering and promoting truth actually contributed to the greater social good by breaking explosive stories the authorities did not want them to break.
The editor of Areo Magazine (incidentally named after Areopagitica, Milton’s impassioned defense of free expression) recently tweeted, The trans right vs. gender critical debate is so intensely toxic on both sides that expressing any view that is not extreme will instantly attract attacks. I cannot even touch it myself here on Twitter because personal friends & family have such ferocious opinions (on both sides). I refuse to take a stance because the intensity of people's feelings about this frankly scare me. And, while I don't care about the responses of strangers, I do not want to lose friendships or alienate family. How did we get to this stage?
As a writer and a consumer of written word, I have learned I have to gauge for myself how to trust a media source/outlet, I have learned that we are seeing things thru a few lenses. A writer’s lens, and then an editor’s lens. Can I trust individuals who have chosen fear, is a personal question I ask myself. This speaks to personal values–truth versus freedom–red pill or blue pill. The beauty of Twitter is it affords me a glimpse into minds previously unavailable. Seeing the character of the people who produce the information we consume as media and news and general political and social intelligence causes me to choose more carefully what sources I consume.
Today, the media and journalism seems to have dropped any pretense they had and doesn’t even try to look objective. The Guardian has published such utter woke bollocks and we’ve all watched it grow increasingly more removed from reality over the past 4 years at least. Global News published a biased piece regarding the recent pro parent/pro child event held in Vancouver, misrepresenting facts and people. I watched watch local dad Chris Elston rise to notoriety in his battle against SOGI123-religious indoctrination of children in the public school system and popular culture and have seem first hand nearly every media account of his actions and position misrepresented and vilified. I’ve read things that simply contradict reality straight up as I know it to BE.
I wonder if this has always been the case—about media objectivity as a mythical notion and not anything that happens in reality—and I never noticed until now? Or–if indeed we have horizontal mergers and related consolidation of media outlets and digital restructuring of news and information purveying in general completely gutting the way we relate to information and turning journalism on it’s head? Or–if the professional lines between activism and professional journalism having become disturbingly blurred has compromised the capacity of journos to navigate their professional duties in a neutral and objective manner?
How spot on—Goebbels’ words about repeating lies until they become truth! The man who spread vitriolic hatred with his Volkskempfanger and rhetorical rage would have loved Twitter, wouldn’t he?
Is this feeling of constant discomfort and incredulity what it means to have taken the red pill? I answer myself yes, as I reflect on the fact that the creators of The Matrix series have themselves fallen prey to the mirage gender extremism promises.
What a weird and surreal dystopian reality we live in, huh?
