Transform. That’s the secret.
So, why does culture teach us fragility and promote and reward it and prevent us from cultivating the resilience we require to transform the unpleasant and painful into useful fuel for existence?
Perhaps because resilient individuals don’t easily succumb or capitulate.
Make lemonade. That’s all.
I could blather on for several hundred more words about this. I feel like it’s simple and this is Friday afternoon and the graphic says a lot already.
Make lemonade. Keep making it. Transform. Keep transforming.
Being alive is a transformative phenomenon. With each breath we transform.
We have collectively cultivated a culture that tells us we should outsource our spiritual work to others. By spiritual I mean relationship with self, how you respond to yourself. Present day modernity tells us we shouldn’t need namby-pamby stuff like ‘spirituality’ because that’s woo woo and rationality is the only way to go. Yet, we aren’t entirely rational creatures because we are instinct-driven and responsive creatures. Therefore, rationality only carries a person so far.
However people choose to conduct their relationship with their own self is obviously deeply personal. Yet, it’s necessary, and identity culture is a spiritual failure because it requires everyone else to do YOUR work.
No one is obliged to carry your bags for you. We don’t owe your identity fealty. We really don’t. We owe you as a human being respect due any human. That’s it. You don’t get to impose protocol requirements on others—you aren’t the Queen or the Pope or the President, you don’t need your own protocol officers. We aren’t playing this game. Failure to validate does not equal hatred. Disagreement does not equal hatred. Validate yourself. Find healthy constructive ways to self soothe and get comfort and dopamine hits.
Learn to live with discomfort, learn to develop resilience—transform!
